Killer Confesses to a Crime Boss, Has No Idea He's a Cop

On November 30, 2016, Jennifer Hillier-Penney vanished from a house in St. Anthony, Newfoundland. Seven years later, to the day, her husband sat down for a job interview on a yacht in Vancouver. The crime boss across the table was an undercover Mountie. This is the story of the RCMP's "Mr. Big" operation: more than four years, about 70 staged scenarios and close to a hundred police employees, built around one man. And of the question the jury asked before its verdict: what does "coercion" mean? Dean Penney was convicted of first-degree murder on May 24, 2026, and sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years. He maintains his innocence and has filed an appeal, which is pending. Allegations are identified as allegations. Undercover officers are identified only by the pseudonyms used in court. Jennifer's daughters are not named or shown.
