Can we restore dignity to a mundane, everyday gesture like flipping a light switch? In this inspiring talk, art theorist and ceramicist Cecília Hausmann explores how the objects surrounding us anchor our past and actively shape our future. Drawing inspiration from her childhood in Nagyvárad and the legacy of the early 20th-century Wiener Werkstätte movement, she shares her journey of founding a porcelain switch manufactory in 2019. Cecília reveals the poetic, hands-on process of working with ancient porcelain—a material that retains the memory of every human touch—proving that mindful design can seamlessly bridge historical palaces and modern homes while preserving our collective heritage for future generations. Can we restore the dignity of an everyday gesture as simple as flipping a light switch? Cecília Hausmann, the founder of Luster Manufacture, has proven that there is a place for ancient, noble materials even in a world dominated by plastic. The porcelain light switches and contemporary objects created in the workshop represent a meeting point between collective artisanal expertise and modern design. The manufacture's work highlights how an ancient material can become a noble tool for conscious home creation in the 21st century.
