Learning how to render like these artists have been one of my biggest goals throughout my art journey. And as I gradually improve, I became happy with how I rendered my characters, but it always felt like something was off whenever I tried putting them into a full scene. So I spent the last few months revisiting my old artworks, experimenting with lighting and colors to figure out what I was missing. And it turns out there was an entire step in my drawing process and a key concept that I didn't even know existed that would change the way I render.
