🚨 A suspected heart attack is a medical emergency, and the first few minutes matter. Knowing what to do can help you respond quickly while professional help is on the way.
❤️ In this video, we explain 3 important steps to take if you or someone nearby may be having a heart attack.
📞 First, recognize the warning signs and call your local emergency medical service immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to become severe, and avoid driving yourself to the hospital.
🪑 Second, stop physical activity and sit or rest in a safe position while waiting for emergency responders. If you are alone, unlock the door and keep your phone nearby if possible.
💊 Third, follow emergency medical guidance regarding medications such as aspirin. Aspirin is not appropriate for everyone—for example, people with certain allergies, bleeding problems, or other contraindications may be advised not to take it. Do not delay the emergency call to take medication.
⚠️ Heart attack symptoms can include pressure or pain in the chest, discomfort spreading to the arm, shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or upper abdomen, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, or unusual weakness. Symptoms can vary, especially in older adults and women.
🚑 If the person becomes unresponsive and is not breathing normally, call emergency services and begin CPR if you know how. Use an AED if one is available and you are trained or instructed to do so.
🩺 This video is for general education and does not replace emergency medical care. When a heart attack is suspected, seek professional help immediately.
👍 Watch until the end so you know the key steps to remember during those critical first minutes.
