Getting to grips with the Taran - Ep. 3 - In the surf.

27/08/2026 It was a day of interesting weather, but surf was up so Typhoon Tess, Madamme Jackie, myself and Mini-Me headed down to Inchydoney for some fun on the waves. I have been keen to get the Taran into the surf for a while, as part of my ongoing acclimatisation process for this boat that I can still find unnervingly tippy in certain conditions. While I was a bit nervous that I might spend the whole time swimming, or gripping my paddle for dear life, I also had a sneaking suspicion that the Taran might be great on the waves. And so it was. I soon found that she goes like a rocket in the surf, and the rudder is an absolute game-changer for staying straight on the wave. Furthermore, the narrow beam meant that the upthrust from the buoyancy force (that can make for a very aggressive bongo ride in other boats) was much less than I am used to, so staying upright was actually very simple.
