Nubra to Pangong Tso: Ultimate Guide to Both Routes | Pangong Lake Travel Tips & Best Time to Visit The Road to Pangong Tso: A Ladakh Adventure! Hello everyone and welcome back to another new chapter of our Ladakh journey! I'm Arun, and today, Manish, Tanuj, and I are setting out from the town of Diskit in Nubra Valley. Our destination? The magnificent Pangong Lake! If you haven't seen our previous vlog, be sure to check it out! We had an amazing time taking a double-humped camel ride and exploring the Diskit Monastery. But now, it's time to move on to the postcard-perfect, blue waters of Pangong—a place that instantly reminds you of the final scene from the movie 3 Idiots. The Journey: Short Route vs. Long Route There are two main routes from Diskit to Pangong. The shorter, more common route is Diskit – Khalsar – Agham – Shyok – Durbuk – Tangtse – Spangmik, which is about 162 km. However, we chose the longer, more adventurous route: Diskit – Khalsar – Agham – Wari La – Sakti – Chang La – Durbuk – Tangtse – Spangmik. It's about 300 km and can take up to 8 hours, but trust me, it's an adventure in itself! The roads were a mix of smooth highways and narrow, winding stretches with no guardrails. The real magic, though, was the stunning Himalayan landscape that surprised us with a new view at every turn. We passed by small bridges with clear, fast-flowing water below and roads that ran right alongside the river. It was truly cinematic! As we got closer, the excitement grew, and then, after one last turn, there it was: the iconic, serene, and breathtakingly beautiful Pangong Tso! About Pangong Lake Did you know this lake is spread across the India-China border? It’s 134 km long, up to 5 km wide, and sits at a height of 4,225 meters above sea level. It’s also a saline water lake that completely freezes over in the winter! Reaching this place after such a long journey was a feeling words can't describe. The moment we saw the deep blue water and the snow-capped mountains, all our fatigue just melted away. Our Ladakh journey so far has been incredibly special. We started in Dalhousie, explored the valleys of Kashmir, saw the raw beauty of Leh, and now we're at Pangong! Ladakh feels like a different world altogether—the scale and openness are unmatched. Planning Your Visit We spent hours here, capturing timelapses and reels, and just soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. The best time to visit Pangong Tso is from mid-July to the end of September. The routes over Wari La and Chang La are often closed by snow during the rest of the year. This was our unforgettable adventure from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake.
