Los que sostenían las estrellas, is a Monodrama for soprano and five instruments composed by Damián Lautaro Gorandi Margaux Loire, soprano Anna Rabinowicz, flûte Isaac Majdi Landa, clarinet and bass clarinet Fiona Chen, violin Maya Devane, cello Yundi Xu, piano Alphonse Cemin, direction World Première, 30 August 2026, Centre Culturel Tanka, Saint-Jean-de-Luz •Prix de composition de l’Académie Ravel 1516, Río de la Plata. An orphaned Spanish adolescent is shipwrecked. He is taken captive by the Indigenous peoples of the region. So begins El entenado, by Argentine writer Juan José Saer. Suspended between two cultures and two languages, this orphan will never fully inhabit either. They call him «Def-ghi», a word encompassing being, existing, appearing, and remaining. He becomes the only witness to a cosmogony on the verge of disappearing. I transpose this liminal condition into a text where Spanish, French, and English coexist with phonemes inspired by Guaraní. Tango, baguala, and chacarera, musics I have inhabited since childhood, reappear transmuted. Not as quotations, but as part of my own sonic imagination and memory. This gives rise to an introspective fantasy: an exploration of the matter and morphology of sound, and its varying degrees of referentiality and signification.
