Most travellers stay away from Botswana in November, as the first rains break the dry season heat. The rivers are unpredictable, the storms roll in without warning, and the wildlife scatters from the concentrated hotspots that made the dry season so easy to appreciate. We went in anyway, right at the start of that turn, into the Okavango Delta and Savuti, to see what many are avoiding.
What follows is a rare and intimate look at how this landscape comes back to life. We filmed a leopard mother who let us sit with her and her cub for an entire morning as she fed him a kill she'd stashed in a tree. We found a lion pride whose history of hunting elephants goes back generations, and watched that instinct surface the moment a bull elephant wandered too close, with a thunderstorm building behind them. We followed a pack of African wild dogs on a hunt, one of the most effective predators on the continent, succeeding nearly eight times out of ten. And one morning, stopped for coffee, we heard a sound neither of us could place…
Blending cinematic wildlife footage with our own behind-the-scenes account of many weeks spent in the African bush, this film documents the sightings that stopped us in our tracks, and what it actually takes to be out there when the season turns, the mud, the flooded roads, the thunderstorms, and why we keep going back for it anyway.

We're Frank and Gesa, wildlife filmmakers, storytellers, and trained safari guides. We met during our guide training, and the wild has been our home ever since. When we're not out in the bush with guests through our travel company, or writing books about our adventures, we're behind the camera, following whatever story the land decides to tell that day.
If you like Africa travel blogs and safari adventures, with a vibe of Jake Davis' personal wildlife documentaries, you have come to the right place.
