The Supreme Court has passed an important order in STS Gladies v. Bar Council of India & Anr., allowing concerned candidates to be provisionally enrolled as advocates, subject to verification of documents and the final outcome of the pending Civil Appeals. ⚖️ What is the controversy? The matter concerns the interpretation and application of Rule 5 of the Bar Council of India's Rules of Legal Education, 2008. The candidates had completed their Bachelor's degrees through open/distance mode and subsequently completed their 3-Year LL.B. courses through regular mode from recognised institutions. Their advocate enrolment was withheld/rejected because of the mode in which their preceding Bachelor's degree had been obtained. The Supreme Court, while granting provisional enrolment, has clarified that: ✅ The enrolment is provisional ✅ It is subject to verification of educational and other documents ✅ It is subject to the final outcome of the Civil Appeals ✅ The provisional enrolment shall not create any equity in favour of the candidates ✅ The Supreme Court has not finally decided the interpretation of Rule 5 at this stage 📌 Case: STS Gladies v.
