Having finished the Hangang Bicycle Path yesterday, we spent today tackling the remaining 70km of the Saejae Bicycle Path, which links the Han and Nakdong Rivers. The journey began with two grueling mountain climbs followed by an exhilarating descent that leveled out into a flat run through quiet villages and farmlands leading toward the Sangjusangpung Bridge.
While our original plan was to head straight to Gumi, I realized that earning the Nakdonggang certification required a 70km detour to the official starting point at Andong Dam. Since we had two buffer days for unforeseen delays, I decided to go for it. Armed with my new Kakao Map navigation skills—thanks to Nerica’s tips—I got the green light from Doc Alfred to branch off solo.
I parted ways with the group in Mungyeong after the long descent from the Ihwaryeong Tunnel, pushing on to Andong Dam before circling back to Andong City for the night. The extra mileage was a small price to pay to witness this modern green oasis; the city is a beautiful blend of high-rise architecture and lush open spaces, with the Nakdong River acting as its main artery. Ending the day with four new stamps and a twilight stroll across the enchanting Moonlight Bridge was the perfect reward for a long day in the saddle.
Day 3 Stats: Distance: 148 km - Time: 11h 24m - Elevation Gain: 920m
