The Clay Is Still Soft A song about the beautiful, necessary breaking of the old vessel… and the gentle hands that never leave the clay. When the structures we built from habit, dogma, and control finally crack under pressure, it can feel like the end of the story. But the Master doesn’t abandon us in the rubble. He sits down with us in the dust, places His hands back on the wheel, and whispers: *the clay is still soft*. This is a song of mercy, redesign, and quiet resurrection. Out of the wreckage comes something wider for mercy, stronger for love, and more radiant than anything we tried to force into shape ourselves. --- Lyrics I worked my whole life long to keep the old shape true Painted up the borders, told my heart what it should do Built a vessel out of habits, ancient dogma, and control Hoping it was strong enough to shelter my own soul Then the pressure started rising and the cracks began to show Fault lines in the system that I didn’t want to know When the whole thing finally shattered on the studio floor I sat down in the rubble and I wept behind the door I thought the broken pieces meant the story had to end Till a gentle voice of mercy whispered, “Look again, my friend…” *Chorus* The vessel had to break so the light could find a way! The Master didn’t leave you in the wreckage of the day! When the old world tumbles and the towers fall apart Don’t you fear the turning of the wheel inside your heart! He’s got His hands upon the wheel, He wipes the weeping from your eyes— The clay is still soft, and the morning’s gonna rise! Yeah, the clay is still soft! Everything that hid in shadow’s coming out into the glare Corruptions in the high place, panic in the public square It looks like things are darker, but it’s just the clearing out A fever breaking in the bones of certainty and doubt You don’t have to fight the spinning or force it with your pride Just listen to the movement of the living love inside Every broken institution, every loss of who we were Is the fertile dirt of springtime where the sleeping seeds can stir It isn’t punishment at all, it’s just the cleaning of the wound The music of the Father’s heart is getting re-attuned… *Chorus* Out of the rubble! Out of the dust! We’re resting in a kingdom built on righteousness and trust! Not by the power of fear or the sword Just the quiet redesign of the Carpenter Lord! Shaped by His kindness! Shaped by His grace! Making room inside our hearts for the whole human race! The wheel is spinning! Now the shape that is emerging under patient, gentle hands Has a beauty and a freedom that no human mind had planned Wide enough for mercy, strong enough to hold Something far more radiant than anything of old *Final Chorus* Spinning on His wheel. Yielding to His hands. Beauty from the dust. The clay is still soft. --- If this song met you in a season of breaking, I’d love to hear your story in the comments. If it encouraged you, consider sharing it with someone who needs to know the clay is still soft. #TheClayIsStillSoft #ChristianMusic #Worship #PotterAndClay #NewSong #Faith #Mercy #Redesign
