Jennifer Lawrence Interview: Working With Her Idol on Die My Love

Die My Love, from director and writer Lynne Ramsay and based on the novel by Ariana Harwicz, is a visceral portrait of a woman who loses herself in marriage and motherhood, at times to the point of madness. Grace (Jennifer Lawrence) moves to a house in the country with Jackson (Robert Pattinson) and when that quickly becomes isolating, it leaves her alone with her thoughts but little inspiration for the novel she’s supposed to be writing. After giving birth to their child, Grace starts to unravel and spirals into depression, as she wonders whether her husband is cheating and what her purpose in life truly is anymore. While Grace never wavers in her love for her child, the journey she’s on has no easy resolution as she fights against social confines and expectations to find her own fulfillment. During this interview with Collider, Lawrence discussed how a call from Martin Scorsese (who produced the film) led to the opportunity to work with her idol Ramsay on Die My Love, the qualities of Ramsay’s she hopes to emulate when she tackles directing, and the intense way she and Pattinson broke the ice on their first day of filming together, while Ramsay explained why she decided to start their shoot that way, how she never knew what was going to happen next with Lawrence, and her desire to direct again soon.
