What if the story your alienated child believes today isn’t the only story they’ll ever be able to consider? In this episode, I’m exploring the “Easter eggs” of reconnection—the stories, relationships, experiences, and seemingly ordinary moments that can quietly introduce a new possibility without anyone forcing the lesson. A recent storyline in Outer Banks stopped me in my tracks: a daughter who had spent years believing her absent mother simply left discovers there was far more to the story. And it got me thinking about something important for those of us navigating parental alienation and estrangement: sometimes a story can reach a place that an argument will never be invited to. We’ll talk about why your child may need time, distance, safety, and life experience before an old question becomes useful; why anger during reconnection doesn’t necessarily mean rejection; why reunion doesn’t automatically create instant intimacy; and why the same message they rejected from you years ago may land completely differently when life delivers it in another package. But this episode isn’t about searching for signs that your child is secretly “waking up”—or putting your life on hold waiting for the right Easter egg to bring them home. It’s about leaving room for possibility without making your life dependent on an outcome. Because possibility is expansive. Waiting is not. And sometimes reconnection begins long before someone actually comes home—with the first question they finally feel safe enough to ask. 🪺 Want to see what this can look like in real life? I’m sharing the story of Shawn, a father who came to me after four years of complete silence with all three of his children—and what changed as he stopped living in survival mode, rebuilt his own life, and began approaching his relationships differently.
