What would happen **if the Lord were not on our side**? In this sermon from *Psalm 124**, The Field Church continues its series through **The Songs of Ascent (Psalms 120–134)* and considers one of the clearest declarations of God’s preserving grace in the Psalms. Psalm 124 begins: *“Had it not been the LORD who was on our side…”* The psalmist looks back at overwhelming danger and recognizes a simple reality: Without God’s help, His people would have been destroyed. But the Lord delivered them. He protected them. He preserved them. And He proved once again that their hope was not in their own strength. Psalm 124 teaches us to look back at God’s faithfulness and recognize how completely dependent we are on Him. Our help is not ultimately found in our wisdom. Our plans. Our strength. Our experience. Or our ability to control what happens next. *“Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”* In this sermon, we explore: What Psalm 124 means What it means for the Lord to be “on our side” How God protects and preserves His people Why Christians should recognize their dependence on God How to remember God’s past faithfulness What Psalm 124 teaches about deliverance Why our help comes from the Creator How Psalm 124 fits within the Songs of Ascent How Christians should respond when God rescues them Psalm 124 does not teach that believers will never experience danger, suffering, or opposition. It teaches that **God is greater than everything that threatens His people**. And when we look back at what could have happened apart from His grace, the proper response is worship. If you are studying **Psalm 124, the Songs of Ascent, God’s protection, God’s deliverance, trusting God in difficult times, help from the Lord, or how God preserves Christians**, this sermon offers a biblical perspective on the faithfulness of the Lord. *The Field Church* Mandeville, Louisiana www.thefieldnola.com
