Canada won't build the all-new 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. On October 6, 2026, GM confirmed that Silverado 1500 production at its Oshawa, Ontario assembly plant will stop in November, and the next-generation Silverado and Sierra 1500 will be assembled in Mexico and Indiana. GM says employment at Oshawa will stay the same: the plant keeps the Silverado HD, adds heavy-duty volume and is preparing to build the GMC Sierra HD with a $144-million investment. Oshawa restarted truck production in November 2021, added the light-duty Silverado in 2022 and has built more than 500,000 Silverados since. In August 2025, GM Canada had confirmed the next-generation Silverado 1500 for Oshawa; in July 2026, GM said the future light-duty locations had not been disclosed. The 2027 Silverado 1500 is still coming to Canada later this year, and GM Canada announced that its St. Catharines, Ontario engine plant will build the brand-new V8s. In this episode of Canada Motor Alert we go through what GM confirmed, the timeline from the 2025 promise to the November end date, the numbers behind the plant, what the all-new truck brings, and what Oshawa builds next.
