'Ako po ay hindi na-harass, na-rape po ako,' emotional Gerald Santos tells Senate panel

An emotional Gerald Santos clarified to a Senate panel on Monday (August 19) that he was raped in the 2005 incident which he had previously referred to in more general terms. "Ako po ay hindi po na-harass, hindi po na-abuse. Ako po ay na-rape po. Na-rape po ako, your honor," he said during the hearing of the Senate committee on public information and mass media. The singer said the incident happened when he was only 15 years old, but did not name the musical director who allegedly raped him. Santos also opted not to detail the rape, saying he fears that the musical director and his friends in the industry would retaliate. In tears, Santos pleaded to the Senate committee's chairperson, Sen. Robinhood Padilla, and Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada to help him as he confirmed contemplating filing a rape complaint, 19 years after the incident.
