More of a proof of concept of a run rather than a properly practiced run. This uses two specific glitches, both related to the game's save dialogue (or more accurately, it's failed to save dialogue) that happens when you press select. The first one is that if select is pressed at the same frame that an NPC starts to talk with you, the game will enter a no clip mode. Xena will be able to walk through and over any terrain without being affected by it, so you can walk through walls, walk over hazardous terrain, etc., but it also it also prevents you from being able enter loading zones so you can't switch screens. Pressing Select again will cancel this state. The second one is that the momentum from using the Spring item to jump is maintained and will ignore any obstacles if Select is pressed in the middle of a jump. This allows you to clip through up to 3 tiles of blocking terrain, assuming there's at least 1 tile of space between where Xena is and the terrain you're trying to jump through. The first glitches primary use is to give access to the second screen of the swamp early, in particular touching the stepping stones near the bottom of that screen is the required trigger to make the final dungeon accessible. Unfortunately you do need to get the sword and the convenient lily path in the first screen of the swamp is only present when entering the screen from the right side, so this particular glitch can not be used to make the any% category faster. It does however make for a much more convenient route for beating all the bosses in the game, largely eliminating the backtracking that would normally require. The second glitch is used throughout the run, and is primarily used to skip item requirements throughout the run. As an example, normally to get into the area leading to the Eye boss requires a 10-step item trading sequence which involves taking the minecart back and forth 6 times. Instead I just jump through the barrier that gets removed at the end of the trading sequence and skip it entirely. Also more mundane things that aren't glitches but are just inscrutable about the game: The puzzle after Eye boss is to hit the statue on top, then return to the position of where the one unlit torch was, then go back up. The statue will have moved out of the way when you do so. I'm not entirely sure but I believe the one room with the chefs the door trigger is Xena being hit enough times by the enemy projectiles, which conveniently do no damage. It might also just be a timer. I'm not entirely sure, I just feel like it goes faster if I manipulate both the chefs to be throwing things at me constantly.
