Storm Boelo battered Scotland and northern England on October 25, 2026, bringing hurricane-force wind gusts, coastal flooding, widespread power cuts and major travel disruption. A gust of 82 mph was recorded on the Scottish island of Tiree as amber warnings remained in place across mainland Scotland and northern England. Tens of thousands of homes were without electricity, while emergency and repair crews faced damage from two named storms in just three days.
Flooding hit Saltcoats on Scotland's west coast, where streets and cars were submerged overnight. Scotland's SEPA issued 30 flood warnings and 11 flood alerts, while England's Environment Agency reported 12 warnings and 58 alerts. Strong winds also disrupted trains, ferries and flights, while major attractions and public events—including Edinburgh Castle and London's Diwali on the Square—closed or were canceled.
In this video, we break down Storm Boelo's strongest wind gusts, flooding and power outages, the disruption across Britain's transport network, and the damage left by Storm Austen in southern England and Wales. We also explain the Met Office's amber and yellow warnings and examine the next wind warning scheduled for Tuesday, October 27.
Although Boelo's strongest gusts had passed by Sunday morning, the risk had not disappeared. Some homes were still awaiting power restoration, warnings remained active, and another round of strong winds was forecast for parts of Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland.
