The Tragic Story of the Genain Quadruplets – Identical Quadruplets With Schizophrenia Identical quadruplets, all diagnosed with schizophrenia by age 24. This is the tragic story of Edna, Wilma, Sarah and Helen Morlok, known to science as the "Genain quadruplets." Born in Lansing, Michigan in 1930, the four sisters were celebrated as a miracle of the Great Depression. People paid 25 cents just to look at them. But behind the family's perfect public image was a controlling, abusive home. When all four sisters developed schizophrenia, the National Institute of Mental Health turned them into one of the most famous case studies in the history of psychiatry. Same genes. Same illness. Four very different lives. In this video, we look at what the scientists saw, what they missed, and why the sisters' story still matters for how we understand schizophrenia today. Undertold brings you the tragic stories of real people whose lives were told wrong, told halfway, or never told at all. Subscribe for the next story.
