Fa Mulan, or simply Mulan, is the eponymous main heroine of the "Mulan" media franchise, based on the ancient Chinese legendary figure with the same name who has been inspiring many works of art, literature, and also live/animated onscreen and other kinds of reimaginings and adaptations of her story ever since. Even though her various depictions were already publicly available, such as in the earliest Chinese live-action movies, she became particularly famous and well-known worldwide once her story was chosen to be included in the lineup of the Disney Princess franchise, which focuses on the origins, lives, and journeys of various princesses and princess-like female characters, to which Mulan belongs. From her initial appearance in the 1998 animated movie "Mulan," which helped shed a great deal of light on her character, she has since been the subject of countless spin-off adaptations and remakes of her story.
