Derek Hill on Overcoming Setbacks and Finding a Home With the Phillies

Sports reporter Tyler Boronski chats with Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Derek Hill at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Hill discusses why the Phillies have been the right fit since joining the club in a June trade from the first-place Chicago White Sox, including his clutch contributions, defensive impact, and adjustment to a clubhouse filled with veteran talent and future Hall of Famers. He shares his initial reaction to the trade, the Phillies teammates he has grown closest with, and what it has been like navigating multiple moves between organizations with his young family and the support of his wife. The former Miami Marlin also reflects on being designated for assignment late in the 2025 season, maintaining belief that another meaningful opportunity would come, and shares his thoughts on Miami’s emerging young core featuring Eury Pérez and Joe Mack. Hill also talks about his TikTok presence, a potential return to social media, and his Catch of the Year-worthy robbery of Juan Soto at Citi Field, including the recognition he's received from Phillies fans and players throughout Major League Baseball. This interview was filmed on August 19th, 2026.
