I wrote the first chorus of it ages ago because the piano demo really spoke to me when Toby teased it. I even teased this cover myself in a compilation of unfinished covers from before Chapter 5, on my second channel... Sturm wrote all the custom melodies we used in this cover, which really gives it more staying power in my opinion. They were a little challenging to write to, but I think I ended up pulling it off when i got in the swing of it! Raven thought up a bunch of small phrases I could incorporate which helped set the tone immensely. Sturm also wrote a couple of lines for after the first chorus, as that melody was stumping me. Thematically, it's similar to some of our Chapter 4 covers, which are a reflection of an ongoing character arc, testing the character of address. With this one, I wanted to make WHO the song is being sung to start indistinct and gradually become clearer, symbolizing Ralsei's growth in this chapter. Thematically, this song is about progress, identity, change, and trust. All themes very relevant to this chapter and its character of focus! I'm very proud of the lyrics in this cover. Vocally, it was also a bit of a challenge. I assumed this song wouldn't be that hard for me, but my first takes ended up Truly terrible. So bad, I started to lose confidence. I needed to take a step back and evaluate my failure. I spent the rest of that first day just doing the harmonies instead (which I'm really proud of). After reflection, practice, and resting up, I took another crack at it. That attempt is what you hear in this video. I'm so much happier with the vocals in the final cover, and grateful to my friends who encouraged me out of that rut. While I was resting my voice, Shefki did the art for this video. It's such a gorgeous piece that I think beautifully and subtly ties into the message of this cover. Send all involved lots of love! We couldn't be happier to be making more DELTARUNE Covers.
