Agriculture is no longer just about growing crops. It is about markets, technology, climate, capital, supply chains, labour and business decisions. For millions of Indians, farming remains a source of livelihood. But the economics of farming are changing rapidly. Protected cultivation, hydroponics, drip irrigation, high-value crops and direct-to-consumer markets are creating new possibilities — while high input costs, uncertain prices, market access, pesticide residues, expensive infrastructure and gaps in government support continue to make farming a difficult business. So, can agriculture actually be run as a profitable business? In the first episode of the News Potli Podcast, Founder Arvind Shukla speaks with Anushka Jaiswal, an agripreneur from Lucknow, about the realities of building a modern farming business in India. Anushka started her journey with agriculture after studying Economics at Hindu College, Delhi University. What began with a small interest in growing vegetables eventually became a serious farming enterprise. She started with one acre and today operates across seven acres, combining protected cultivation, open-field farming, nursery production and hydroponics. This is not a conversation about farming from textbooks. It is about what actually happens when you put money, technology and labour into the field. In this episode, we discuss: • Is farming really profitable? • What does it cost to build and operate a modern farm? • Polyhouse and protected cultivation — opportunity or financial trap? • Hydroponics and high-value crops • Why farmers struggle to find the right markets • Selling through mandis, Blinkit, Zepto and wholesale markets • Why good-quality produce doesn't always guarantee good prices • Pesticide residues and India's export problem • Organic farming vs productivity and quality • The real cost of running a protected farm • Government subsidies and why accessing them can be difficult • Technology, precision farming and drip irrigation • The importance of crop timing and market research • Labour, farm management and the role of women workers • Why small and marginal farmers face a different reality • What people from cities should understand before entering agriculture • What it takes to become an agripreneur Host: Arvind Shukla, Founder — News Potli Guest: Anushka Jaiswal, Agripreneur & Modern Farmer Subscribe to News Potli for conversations on agriculture, agribusiness, rural India, agri-policy, technology and the people shaping the future of farming. #NewsPotliPodcast #Hydroponics #ProtectedCultivation FOLLOW: 👉👉👉👉 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 👉 Facebook-   / @potlinews   👉 Instagram-   / newspotli   👉 Twitter-   / @potlinews   👉 LinkedIn-   / newspotli   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 👉 Related searches Modern farming in India Agripreneurship in India Farming as a business Profitable farming in India How to start a farming business Young farmers in India Women agripreneurs in India Women in agriculture Agriculture business ideas Modern agriculture technology Protected cultivation in India Polyhouse farming in India Polyhouse farming cost Hydroponic farming in India Hydroponics business in India High value crops in India Precision farming in India Smart farming in India Drip irrigation farming Greenhouse farming in India Farming without soil Agriculture entrepreneurship Farm business ideas How to make money from farming Is farming profitable in India Challenges of modern farming Agriculture market in India Farmer income in India Agricultural subsidies in India Agriculture podcast India
