It’s a cool October morning when Johnny and I head out for a test ride. We think we have the rear brake fixed and want to make sure. Any excuse to ride the back roads of Arkansas. I haven’t ridden much this trip without the trailer hooked up and I’ve only been able to ride with others a couple of times so it is just going to be a bit of fun. That half hour test ride turns into a run for coffee and then for food that lasts over four hours. We stopped for gas before heading back to Johnny’s and the starter motor would not stop. Turning the key off and the kill switch off will not stop it. Finally, I put the bike in gear and this does stop it. We wait for a few minutes and then I try to start the bike. I hit the starter button and nothing happens. Neither of us has any tools to speak of with us. Someone gave me a meter and we test the battery. Fully charged, The only thing to do is to go old school and try a bump start. Turns out it’s surprisingly easy to bump start a 900 lb. GoldWing in third gear. On the ride back to Johnny’s, all I can think about is I am running out of time to get home and I’ve run out of funds. This is when I set up my “Buy Me a Coffee” account and made an appeal for some help. I was overwhelmed by the generosity. So, we figure out the culprit is the reverse starter relay. Honda no longer stocks it.
