TWO Maiden Centuries in One Innings! | Ropley CC vs Petersfield CC

Two maiden centuries, a slightly questionable wicket, and a rather emphatic victory! Ropley 2nd XI travelled to Penn Place, Petersfield, on 18th July 2026 for their Hampshire Cricket League Division 6F clash with Petersfield 3rd XI. The day got off to an interesting start. A wicket that had barely seen a mower, stumps that didn't quite line up, and a toss that saw Petersfield invite us to bat. Things didn't immediately improve when skipper Lloyd Nash departed for a royal duck with the score on 0. But what followed was something rather special. Steve Carter (121) and Ben Matthews (100) both recorded their maiden centuries, helping Ropley recover to 298-3 before eventually posting an imposing 345-7 from 40 overs. Petersfield, fielding a particularly youthful side and missing an injured player, faced an enormous challenge. Their youngsters gave it a proper go, but Ropley's bowlers were ruthless, with Jon Dyer-Slade taking 4-30, Luke Simon 3-5, and Sam Cockhead conceding just 10 runs from his eight overs. Petersfield were eventually dismissed for 66, giving Ropley a 279-run victory. A difficult afternoon for the hosts, who deserve credit for battling away, and an unforgettable one for two Ropley batsmen. Final scores: Ropley CC 2nd XI: 345-7 (40 overs) Petersfield CC 3rd XI: 66 all out (24 overs) Ropley won by 279 runs. 🏏 Hampshire Cricket League Division 6F 📍 Penn Place, Petersfield 📅 18 July 2026 #VillageCricket #CricketHighlights #RopleyCC
