This film was shot on location at the Point of No Return, Gberefu Island, Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria — the exact spot where more than 500,000 enslaved Africans departed their homeland during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. As an African American descendant of that crossing, filming this ground was not just work.
