Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel! Today we're diving into the incredible story of one of the most influential — and controversial — entrepreneurs of our time: Elon Musk. Elon Reeve Musk born June 28, 1971) is a businessman and former public official who is the CEO and largest shareholder of Tesla and SpaceX. Musk has been the wealthiest person in the world since 2025, and became the only trillionaire in terms of US dollars in June 2026; as of July 23, 2026, Forbes estimates his net worth to be US$744 billion. Born into the wealthy Musk family in Pretoria, South Africa, Musk emigrated in 1989 to Canada; he has Canadian citizenship since his mother was born there. He received bachelor's degrees in 1997 from the University of Pennsylvania before moving to California to pursue business ventures. . Elon has a younger brother, Kimbal Musk, and a younger sister, Tosca Musk — both of whom have gone on to build their own careers, with Kimbal in the restaurant and sustainable food business and Tosca in film and media production. Musk left South Africa as a teenager, first heading to Canada, where he enrolled at Queen's University. He later transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, earning dual degrees — a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School. He briefly began a PhD in applied physics at Stanford University but left after just two days to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions during the early dot-com boom. Musk's business journey started with Zip2, a web software company he co-founded with his brother Kimbal, which was sold to Compaq for hundreds of millions of dollars. He then co-founded X.com, an online payment company that eventually became PayPal, sold to eBay in 2002. That sale gave him the capital to found SpaceX in 2002, aiming to revolutionize space travel and eventually make human life multiplanetary. In 2004, he became an early investor and later CEO of Tesla, pushing the world toward electric vehicles and sustainable energy. He's also behind ik working on brain-computer interfaces, and The Boring Company, focused on tunnel infrastructure. One of the most talked-about chapters in Musk's career was his acquisition of Twitter. In 2022, he agreed to purchase the platform for roughly $44 billion after a dramatic back-and-forth that included attempts to walk away from the deal and an eventual legal standoff that pushed him to close it. He later rebranded the platform as X, and in a major restructuring move, it was folded into his AI company, xAI. As of 2026, Musk's fortune has reached historic territory. Following SpaceX's public listing and its merger with xAI, his net worth has soared past $800 billion — with some estimates placing him as the world's first trillionaire, largely driven by his stakes in SpaceX, Tesla, and the combined SpaceX-xAI entity. He remains a cofounder of seven companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, and owns nearly 11% of Tesla, which he's led as CEO since 2008. Forbes Musk has been married multiple times, including to author Justine Wilson and actress Talulah Riley, whom he married and divorced twice. He has several children from various relationships. That's the story of Elon Musk — from a childhood in South Africa to becoming one of the most powerful figures shaping technology, space exploration, and the future of AI.
