Nhlanhla Prichard Mhlanga was born in Zimbabwe with polydactyly, meaning he was born with six fingers. From a young age, he knew that he was different from those around him, and growing up in Africa he experienced painful rejection and was called cruel names, including being told that he was a “child of the devil.” Yet one memory from Sunday school stayed with him. He heard the words that we are made in the image of God, and this only raised more questions in his mind. If he was made in God’s image, why was he different? Why had God made him this way? As Prichard grew older, the rejection and confusion began to affect the person he became. After being bullied, he eventually became the bully himself, becoming hostile, getting into fights and eventually being kicked out of school. Drugs, alcohol and a reckless lifestyle followed as he searched for freedom, acceptance and somewhere he could belong. Prichard had never known his biological father. When he was young, his mother left for Europe to pursue her career as a musician, and he was raised by his grandparents, who were pastors. His grandfather became an important father figure in his life, but he later died from tuberculosis. Once again, Prichard was left with difficult questions. Why would God allow his grandfather, a man who loved the Lord, to die? Losing the only father figure he had known left another deep wound in his life. Eventually, Prichard joined his mother in the United Kingdom, but his search for family and belonging continued. He quickly became involved with drug dealers and the party lifestyle, and his reckless choices eventually led to arrests and periods in custody. On one occasion, Prichard was convinced that he was going to prison. With nowhere else to turn, he cried out to God and asked Him for help. A solicitor arrived and Prichard was released. That experience became a turning point. Instead of returning to the life he had been living, Prichard began looking for a way out and found a rehabilitation programme connected to a church. It was there that his journey with God truly began. The drugs, alcohol, violence and old lifestyle that had defined so much of his life no longer had to control him. Prichard started to open his heart to Jesus and began to understand what it meant to be truly changed from the inside out. The man who had spent years searching for identity, acceptance and belonging found a new identity in Christ. He was born again and began leaving his old ways behind. This is Prichard’s powerful story of rejection, struggle, redemption and transformation — a reminder that no matter how far we may have wandered, God can still reach us, restore us and give us a completely new beginning. This is Prichard’s testimony. This is why he proclaims Jesus. Connect with Prichard:   / focusflame6   Do you want to find out more about Jesus or learn about our mission?
