Tonight, we're taking one of the most legendary cars ever to wear a Porsche-shaped body to Oulton Park's Island layout: the 1987 RUF CTR Yellowbird. The weather, however, has other plans. What starts as a drive through the track with a setting sun, heavy storms roll in, quickly turning into a battle against rain, darkness, standing water and a car that was never exactly famous for being forgiving. As the storm begins to clear, the track comes back to life and the lap times start falling. But that's not where the drive ends. As night completely takes over and the storm moves away, I turn the lights off. No headlights. No artificial lighting. Just the track, the moon, and whatever I can see ahead of the Yellowbird. It's a very different kind of driving experience—less about chasing a perfect lap and more about simply trying to keep this 1987 twin-turbo monster on the road when the road itself is barely visible. From torrential rain to a drying circuit, from a 2:11.496 weather-affected lap, and finally to driving Oulton Park by moonlight alone... the session eventually produces a 1:37.474 fastest lap after the storm clears, by moonlight alone, with the Yellowbird reaching over 213 km/h (132 mph) around Oulton Park. This is the RUF CTR Yellowbird at Oulton Park. Welcome to Chasing the Drive.
