The Dungarvan Cycling & Lions Club Charity Sportive 2026 is a prominent charity cycling event held in County Waterford, Ireland. Organized by Dungarvan Cycling Club in partnership with the local Lions Club, this annual event brings the cycling community together to raise vital funds for local charitable causes while tackling some of West Waterford's most spectacular and challenging roads. This video took on a deeply poignant and meaningful tone as it is dedicated to the memory of Jason Travers, a beloved committee member, stalwart of Dungarvan Cycling Club, and highly respected figure in the Irish cycling and running communities who passed away suddenly in July 2026. Known for his driving energy behind local cyclocross races, his popular Munster Cross Chat podcast, and his dedicated mentorship of youth riders, this video is in his honor. The Routes & The Ride Starting from the Fusion Centre in Dungarvan, the sportive offered participants two distinct, fully supported routes designed to showcase the rugged beauty of the region: • The 74.4km Challenge: A flatter, highly scenic route winding through the beautiful terrain of West Waterford, offering an accessible yet rewarding day out for leisure cyclists. • The 124.4km / 133km Route: A serious test of endurance that took riders deep into the mountains. The route famously features demanding regional ascents, including the legendary climb over The Vee in the Knockmealdown Mountains and through Ballyporeen, giving riders a true climbing challenge. With a Garda escort out of town, lead cars, dedicated water stations, and food stops along the way, the event provided an exceptional, professional-tier sportive experience fueled by camaraderie and community spirit. My YouTube video captures not just a challenging day in the saddle, but a moving tribute to a true local gentleman and athlete whose impact on Munster cycling continues to endure.
