The Cables ~ Baby Why (Live with lyrics/c.c.)

The Cables were led by Keble Drummond whose Christian name inspired the group's name. He subsequently recruited Elbert Stewart and Vince Stoddart. Keble had previously sung with Barry Llewellyn and Earl Morgan of the Heptones and in 1966 that trio recorded with Sonia Pottinger. The sessions resulted in Clement Coxsone Dodd recruiting the Cables and recorded a series of hits that featured on the legendary album `What Kind of World'. After leaving Studio One they recorded with Harry Johnson and released `Feel Alright" which came second at the Festival Song Contest in 1971. Our featured track is the Studio One classic `Baby Why' that led to counless versions on the riddim famously the Mighty Diamonds, `Have Mercy' alongside suspas like Marcia Griffiths and Freddie MacGregor and DJs such as Prince Jazzbo an Trinity. Following their spell with Harry J they recorded with producers, J.J. Johnson and Bunny Lee but sadly never achieved the accolades of their tenure at Studio One. The Cables have reformed several times in the years that followed as well as re-recording `Baby Why' for the Cables & Friends album. Through the nineties and the millennium they've performed their hits in fine style on many highly acclaimed reggae showcase presentations. DISCLAIMER!!!
