Pictures at an Exhibition

Part of a performance given in the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Promenade Concert series in 1981. I was present but also had a tape recorder running back at home! Sitting next to the legendary Chicago Symphony Orchestra brass section I realised that nothing had prepared me for the huge, organic sound they made. I don't think any modern orchestra can or maybe chooses to make this sound now. Much of it is down to principal trumpet Herseth but I also remember the quality of the low end players providing the support for his fearless playing.
