How does the Javelin find a tank on its own? In this video we open up the FGM-148 Javelin in 3D, piece by piece: the Command Launch Unit with its thermal sight, the sealed launch tube, and the missile inside it, from the infrared seeker at the nose to the two charges, the two rocket motors and the folding wings. We follow the whole sequence slowly: how the gunner finds a target, locks it with the missile's own eye, and fires. We watch the soft launch, the moment the flight motor ignites, the top-attack flight that climbs high above the battlefield and dives onto the thinner roof armor, and what the two charges do when they reach the tank. Then we look at the direct-attack mode, compare it with the older wire-guided Dragon, and finish with its size, cost and history. All 3D models are illustrative reconstructions based on public information.
