CROSS-EXAMINATION
Dorsey confirms he is not a detective
He became involved in the case in 2012 after learning about Greg Kading’s Murder Rap book
Dorsey says his documentary research combined his own work with Kading explaining the investigation he had conducted
Defense walks through books and other sources Dorsey did and did not review
Dorsey says Kading gave him more than 2,700 digitized reports, over 100 hours of audio, photographs and other case material
Dorsey did not interview LVMPD detectives while making Murder Rap
He did not begin contacting Metro about Davis’s public statements until after Death Row Chronicles aired
Dorsey says he eventually exchanged numerous emails with Detective Mogg as new Davis interviews appeared online
Dorsey secretly made his own audio recording while listening remotely to the 2017 Davis interviews
Davis did not know Dorsey was listening and texting additional questions to producer Mario Diaz
Dorsey did not turn his recording over to BET or LVMPD and says he never used it for another project
At different points Dorsey told defense counsel:
“Don’t shake your head.”
“Can you please stop badgering me, man?”
Judge Kierny later instructed both sides to stop the commentary and stick to questions and answers.
GREG KADING
Defense challenged Dorsey’s reliance on files supplied by Greg Kading
Kading worked the Biggie Smalls task force rather than the original LVMPD Tupac investigation
The parties argued outside the jury’s presence about how far defense could go into Kading’s credibility and conduct
Judge Kierny allowed defense to explore the completeness of the case file Dorsey relied upon and how Dorsey obtained it, while limiting unsupported character attacks on Kading
VERIFICATION
Defense questioned whether Dorsey independently verified details in Davis’s later accounts, including:
Foxy Brown being in Las Vegas
Davis renting rooms at Caesars Palace
Davis’s claimed $3,000 Versace suit
His alleged seating at the Tyson fight
Photos in Compton Street Legend
Orlando Anderson’s clothing
The “Liquor Barn” stop
People allegedly traveling in the group
Whether a .40-caliber gun was recovered
Whether searches produced evidence placing Davis in Las Vegas
Asked whether he personally possessed physical evidence connecting Davis to Tupac’s murder, Dorsey said he did not.
REDIRECT
State returned to Dorsey’s research concerning the alleged Liquor Barn
Dorsey discussed Lee’s Liquor / Liquor Barn naming and a liquor store in the area Davis described
State returned to Foxy Brown / Inga Marchand and whether investigators had attempted to interview her
State asked about Davis discussing his 2008 proffer in Compton Street Legend
Dorsey said many details from Davis’s account could be compared against material in the case files
State specifically asked whether, as far as Dorsey knew, the first use of “Sea Breeze” / Sebring to identify the women’s car in the 2008 proffer came from Davis
Dorsey answered yes
RECROSS
Defense asked whether Dorsey had ever interviewed Suge Knight
Dorsey: No
No jury questions were submitted for Dorsey.
