The Solid Rock / My Hope Is Built (Piano Arrangement): Hymn Instrumental Series

This is the second part of our six-part Hymn Instrumental Series! We hope you enjoy this piano improvisation of the classic traditional hymn, "The Solid Rock." Over the past year, my wife and I have been on a passion project to grow our discernment when it comes to worship music. We started asking ourselves a challenging question: Are the songs we are singing actually reflecting solid biblical doctrine? As part of this journey, we have been intentionally singing traditional hymns which carry lyrics that are deeply rooted and rich in truth. This video is the second in a six-part series of hymns we are currently working on memorizing together as a family. We hope this instrumental track provides a calm background for your own reflection, prayer, or study. Brief Story Behind the Hymn: The lyrics to "The Solid Rock" were written in 1834 by Edward Mote, a cabinet maker in London, who wrote the lyrics while walking to work one morning. The melody we know today was composed decades later in 1863 by William B. Bradbury, who intentionally wrote the melody for these lyrics and officially named the tune "Solid Rock."
