Rainbow River Pontoon Day | Boating, Snorkeling & Hiking Indian Creek

We launched the pontoon from Centennial Park in Dunnellon, Florida, then cruised up the Withlacoochee River until it connected with the Rainbow River. The day had started with a lightning storm, so for a while it looked like our plans might be over before they really began. Once the weather cleared, the whole day changed. We headed upstream on the Rainbow River, enjoying the clear green water and scenery from the pontoon. Eventually, we anchored near Indian Creek, where I got in the water to snorkel before hiking up Indian Creek and back. After that, we slowed things down and spent some time floating in lounges in the river’s cool 72-degree water. We turned around at Indian Creek because boats are not permitted to continue all the way up to the head springs, so that became our turnaround point for the day. From there, we cruised back downstream and finished the trip at Swampy’s, where I ordered one of my favorite dishes: Redfish Pontchartrain.
