HON. CHARLES MATOVU DEAD AT 41: SUDDEN DEATH, COURT CASE AND UNANSWERED QUESTIONS Uganda has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Hon. Charles Matovu, the former Busiro South Member of Parliament and National Unity Platform (NUP) politician, who died on October 22, 2026, at the age of 41. According to reports, Matovu developed a sudden health complication on Monday evening. NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya said that when he visited Matovu at Lubaga Hospital on Thursday, the former MP was critically ill and unable to speak or open his eyes. Matovu was later transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for further medical investigations, where he reportedly died shortly afterwards. However, the exact medical cause of his death had not been publicly established in the reports available at the time. THE COURT CASE THAT WAS STILL ONGOING Matovu was involved in a court battle challenging the January 2026 Busiro South parliamentary election results. He had contested on the NUP ticket but lost to NRM candidate Kenan Opio, who was declared the winner. Matovu challenged the outcome, alleging electoral irregularities and non-compliance with electoral laws. According to published reports, he received 30,487 votes, compared with Opio's 36,497. On September 25, 2026, the High Court in Entebbe dismissed Matovu's separate application seeking access to additional electoral materials, ruling that the documents he requested had not been specified clearly enough. This was a separate application and did not itself determine the main election petition. Reports indicate that the substantive petition was scheduled for hearing on October 16. However, I could not independently confirm the last date Matovu personally appeared in court before his death. WAS HE BEWITCHED, OR WAS IT A MEDICAL EMERGENCY? Matovu's sudden deterioration and death have raised questions among members of the public. Some may speculate about witchcraft because of how abruptly the news emerged, but no verified evidence establishes that he was bewitched. The responsible approach is to await information from his family, medical professionals or other reliable authorities about the cause of death. His passing has left NUP members and supporters mourning a politician whose election dispute remained unresolved. What do you think about Hon.
