After so many requests to come and spin in the sates over the years, I had to answer the call. What followed was everything I imagined and more. We spent time in New York, Washington DC and Richmond which were all interesting and unique places to experience first hand. New York City, has been part of my musical upbringing and has permeated almost everything I've been influenced by and listened to for years growing up, from music and fashion to sports and TV. Martin and I, were lucky enough to build connections with Virgin Hotels NYC and record two mixes during our visit as part of a collaboration project in the spring of last year. This mix, was recorded in The Everdene, a beautiful bar, restaurant and cafe on the third floor of the hotel, overlooking the rooftops of Midtown New York. To match the settings, I put together a mix to compliment the surroundings. The second mix will be released later this year, which takes place on the rooftop of the hotel at dusk. That's one not to miss! I have to extend a huge thank you to several people who helped make this trip happen as this was no doubt one of the most ambitious projects I've been involved in to date. The main visual and production architect behind what you see is Martin Blackburn, film maker and videographer extraordinaire. I could not have asked for someone more diligent and qualified to help bring this vision to life. Please go give Martin his flowers – he went crazy on the edit! To Lindsey and Kristine of Virgin Hotels NYC: without these two taking a chance on us, listening to and understanding our vision, we wouldn’t have had the foundation to make this happen. Their expert guidance, patience, open-mindedness and support made this all possible. And finally, a thank you to you, the community. While at Virgin Hotels NYC, longtime fans of my mixes came from Philadelphia, Rhode Island and Atlanta to come to see me play which was and still is wild to me. To think, the reach and power of music, crossing international boundaries brought us here and connected together is crazy. As mentioned, this is part 1 of 2 mixes recorded in NYC.
