Andy Squyres - Dead Horse [Official Lyric Video]

It's never been my aim to be difficult or shocking. But when I pick up my guitar and set my pen to paper I secretly hope that I am not easily understood. You might think my reasoning is flawed and I concede that it may be, but I must tell you that while value claims concerning "faithful witness" among my religious brethren are ardent, what ever exactly "faithful witness" looks like seems to be up for some debate. With as much humility as I can muster, my claim is that Dead Horse is a faithful witness. It's faithful because it is particular about pain. It's telling the story of it's protagonist and not leaving out the details. It's not ashamed to be an alcoholic and it's not ashamed to be a Christian. It's not making apologies for the complexities of being human. Dead Horse is a faithful witness because it is us, and we are kinda shocking. But it's not enough to air the details of our dirty laundry without at least some proclamation of Gospel! I'm not saying every song or story needs to have a happy ending! God bless the art house flick that refuses to resolve the main conflict! But let our broken songs be infused with the transcendent glory and reality of the risen Christ! Let all our dead horses be altars of our present and eventual wholeness. We don't have to spell it out for anyone. The poetics of the Spirit are sufficient for the day. My hope and prayer is that this video rattles your doors and windows and elicits such praise from your being that the joy of being alive in the hands of your Creator overtakes you in whatever weakness you find yourself in.
