Holiday Mode - Stress before de-stress...

"Holiday Mode" — a fun, relatable road-trip anthem about the chaos and excitement of family holiday prep. From spreading out the map and checking the weather app to packing the car, loading the roof rack, and worrying about flat tyres and bounding roos — this song captures the nervous anticipation before hitting the road. Then the relief kicks in: the miles roll out, the stress fades, and at last — holiday mode. Perfect for fans of Australian country, folk, and story-driven road-trip songs. Lyrics (c) Marc Glasby We spread the map out on the table, Pick the dates and map downloads. Can we miss the main peak season, Miss the queues and blocked up roads? The doctor says, “Come back next Tuesday,” The tyres are thin and rain’s forecast. Each time we check the weather app, The blue sky has all gone past. Is there a cough, a call, a warning light? Some reason we must stay? We cross our fingers, say our prayers, And we count the days away. We’re getting ready, getting ready, Hoping nothing holds us back, Will we remember what we need, And get this old car down the track? We’re getting ready, getting ready, Things both worry and excite, If it all goes well today, Then we are off in morning light. Then we are off in morning light. The week arrives, and we start packing, Food and blankets, booze and chairs. Did we pack the camping lantern? Did we pack the engine spares? Where's the kettle, the first aid kit? Where’s the charger, where’s the map? I check the tyres and lock the cupboards, Load the roof rack, tighten straps. Is that oil out on the driveway? Is that water dripping out? What if we get a flat tyre? What if roos come bounding out? We’re getting ready, getting ready, Hoping nothing holds us back, Will we remember what we need, And get this old car down the track? We’re getting ready, getting ready, Things both worry and excite, If it all goes well today, Then we are off in morning light. We're off in morning light. The night before, the rain kept falling, We lay awake and heard it pour. Then the dawn came clear and silent, Sunlight shining through the door. Last bags are packed in to the boot now, Kids are in, the engine roars, As we drive away we worry, Did we lock all the house doors? For the first few miles, we listen, Is the motor sounding fine? What’s that whistle by the window? What's that funny little whine? Oh, it's just the kids on smart phones, Just their games and bouncing bags. We still wonder what is missing, Pack the sheets inside the swags? We’re on our way, we’re on our way, The plans are made, the stress is done. The miles roll out beneath the wheels, And we're heading for the sun. We’re on our way, we’re on our way, The stress leaves us, mile by mile, The campsite's waiting up ahead, And at last we wear a smile. At last, at last, at last, we're on the road, At last, at last, we’re in holiday mode, At last, we’re in holiday mode... At last, we’re in holiday mode...
