Genos REMOVE the Drums & Bass… It Sounds BEAUTIFUL! 🎹

🎹 *Yamaha Genos: NO Drums, NO Bass… and It Sounds BEAUTIFUL!* When we choose a Style on an arranger keyboard, it's very easy to assume that we should use everything the Style gives us. *Drums, bass, chords, pads, phrases…* But do we really need all of it? In today's Keyboard World tutorial, I take a Yamaha Genos Style and do something that might initially seem rather strange — I start **removing some of the parts you would normally consider essential**. 🥁 The drums go. 🎸 The bass goes. 🎵 The pad and phrase tracks go. That leaves us with a dramatically stripped-back accompaniment — but rather than sounding empty, it creates **space**. We then head into the **Style Mixer**, re-voice some of the parts we've kept and begin shaping the balance of the accompaniment. The result is a completely different Style: *delicate, spacious, musical and extremely usable.* LESS REALLY CAN BE MORE This is an important lesson with arranger keyboards. Factory Styles are fantastic starting points, but you don't have to accept them exactly as the manufacturer created them. **Mute what you don't need. Re-voice what you keep. Rebalance the parts. Make the Style fit YOUR arrangement.** Sometimes taking four or five elements away can have a far greater musical effect than adding another sound. And best of all, these changes take only a few moments to experiment with. 🎓 *KEYBOARD WORLD ARRANGEMENT CLUB* If you enjoy ideas like this, our Arrangement Club goes much deeper into creating more musical and sophisticated performances.
