Eight hours of blue noise, thin and airy and rising, over a picture that keeps moving without ever asking for your attention.

WHAT BLUE NOISE (AZURE NOISE) IS
Blue noise is pink noise upside down. Energy rises with frequency at 3 dB per octave, so it is thin, airy and weighted clearly towards the top, with almost no bass in it at all. Of everything in this series it is the least likely to be somebody's default background sound, and it is the most used outside audio.
In graphics, blue noise means a random pattern with no low frequency clumping, which is why blue noise dither looks clean where plain random dither looks blotchy, and why it turns up in sampling, halftoning and stippling. It is the same idea in both fields: energy at fine scales, nothing at coarse ones.
WHY IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT
S(f) is proportional to f, so beta is -1 and the slope is +3 dB per octave. It is the exact mirror of pink about a flat spectrum, and multiplying a pink spectrum by a blue one gives you back a white one.
Being high passed by construction, it has none of the trouble pink and brown have at the bottom end, where a true slope would demand infinite energy. Its awkwardness is at the other end: a rising slope means the top octave dominates the total power, so how it sounds depends heavily on where the generator stops. Here that is the Nyquist limit of a 48 kHz signal, so the rise continues to 24 kHz, comfortably above anything you can hear.
Slope: +3 dB per octave. Spectral exponent beta = -1, with power density going as f to the minus beta.
WHAT PEOPLE USE IT FOR
Tinnitus masking at high pitches, which is the main listening case. Most tinnitus is heard as a high tone or hiss, and a masker whose energy sits in the same region covers it with far less total loudness than broadband noise would need. If white noise feels like it is spending most of its effort on bass you did not want masked, try this.
It also covers high frequency irritants: fan whine, coil whine, distant electronics, birdsong at first light. Start quiet. A rising spectrum puts its energy exactly where hearing is most easily damaged, so this is the one to be most careful with.
SETTINGS AND SAFETY
Keep it quiet. It should sit under whatever you are masking: if
you raise your voice above it, it is too loud. Overnight, move the speaker further away rather than turning it up, and
take particular care with a child in the room, since a sound machine near a
cot can run much louder than anyone intends.
This is a sound file and not a treatment. Plenty of people find steady noise
helps them sleep, concentrate or live with tinnitus, and the research behind
those uses is thin and mixed rather than settled. Tinnitus, hearing loss or
persistent trouble sleeping are worth raising with a doctor.
WHAT YOU ARE WATCHING
Fine bright filigree in cold light, renewing constantly, small and even, with no large slow shapes.
None of this is footage. Every frame is computed from the same
kind of maths as the sound: a field with a shaped power spectrum, so the
picture matches what you hear.
The movement is a flow, not a slide: the coordinates it is drawn from are
pulled around by a second slow field, so shapes stretch and fold instead of
travelling. Detail appears only where there is already density, so thin parts
stay smooth and dense parts grow filaments, falling to true black between.
The thin line across the middle traces a signal with this colour's own
spectral slope: brown draws a few fat slow swells, violet a fine fast fuzz.
It does not read the audio: the picture loops and the sound does not.
It never flashes, and no logo burns in.
FORMAT
3840x2160 (4K UHD), 8 hours, 10 bit, 30 fps.
Audio: 48 kHz stereo from two independent sources, so the channels are uncorrelated. Mastered quietly, about -23 LUFS.
The picture is a 30 minute generative loop with no visible seam. The audio never loops: it runs end to end for all 8 hours.
