Threads of Fate RPG Campaign
[Verse I]
Tie bright ribbons round the pillars,
bring the olives, bread and wine.
Every ship that found the harbor
left the restless sea behind.
Let the old men boast of tempests,
let the children steal the figs.
If the tale grows with the telling,
pour another cup and sing.
[Pre-Chorus]
Count the lamps along the wall,
leave the eastern doorway wide.
There is always room for one more
when the harbor lights are bright.
[Chorus]
Come with the tide, come laughing ashore,
salt in your hair and the sun at your door.
Lift up your cup while the evening is young;
the night has a thousand stories unsung.
The tide brings the gift that the longing heart sought.
The ebb bears away what the household forgot.
So strike up the drum, let the bright voices rise—
tomorrow can wait on the far side of night.
[Verse II]
Name the islands, name the headlands,
name the stars that led you through.
Trade a seashell for a story,
trade a song for something true.
May the nets return up heavy,
may the jars be filled with gold,
may the gods forget to count us
when the foolish tales are told.
[Pre-Chorus]
Keep the dancers near the fire,
keep the youngest from the wine.
Leave a little bread uneaten—
someone may arrive in time.
[Chorus]
Come with the tide, come laughing ashore,
salt in your hair and the sun at your door.
Lift up your cup while the evening is young;
the night has a thousand stories unsung.
The tide brings the gift that the longing heart sought.
The ebb bears away what the household forgot.
So strike up the drum, let the bright voices rise—
tomorrow can wait on the far side of night.
[Bridge — quieter]
The sea lies still beneath the stars.
No wind disturbs the bay.
Far past the reach of lantern light,
a white sail waits till day.
Do not ask what name it carries.
Do not ask what shore it knew.
Every guest becomes a story
when the sea has brought them through.
[Final Chorus]
Come with the tide, come laughing ashore,
there is wine in the cup and a wreath at the door.
Dance while the lamps throw their gold on the stone;
no heart at our table shall feast here alone.
The tide brings the gift that the longing heart sought.
The ebb bears away what the household forgot.
Let the sea keep its secrets till morning is bright—
tonight we are here.
We are singing tonight.
[Outro — call and response]
One for the hearth—
One for the foam.
One for the wanderer—
One coming home.
Leave one lamp burning—
Leave one cup filled.
The doors are wide open.
The sea has gone still.
