Former PM on son's rescue

(10 May 2016) A former prime minister of Pakistan told reporters on Tuesday that it was the "happiest day" following news that his son had been freed after three years in captivity. Yusuf Raza Gilani's son, Ali Haider Gilani, was found during a raid on Islamic militants near Afghanistan's eastern border with Pakistan, according to a spokesperson for Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Gilani, believed to be around 30, is said to be in good health and will be transported back to his family on a plane sent by current Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the elder Gilani said. Gunmen kidnapped the younger Gilani in May 2013, several days before the general elections in his central Pakistani hometown of Multan. There was no claim of responsibility for the abduction but suspicion immediately fell on the Taliban.
