Jin Gu Method, Tendon Training, Isometric Holds Stand up. Shoes off, if you can. Feet under your hips. Now rise onto the balls of your feet. All the way up — as high as your ankles will let you go. Heels off the floor. Stay there. Now count. Not how long you can stay up. Count the seconds until the shake starts. That first tremble in the calves that runs up behind your knees. Ten seconds? Thirty? Ninety? Whatever that number is, hold onto it. We're coming back to it at the end, and I'll tell you exactly what it says about you. Keep holding. The Chinese word for what you're loading right now is jin. It gets translated as tendon, but it means more than that. It means the whole rope system — the cords that tie your muscles to your bones, and the sheets of tissue that wrap around them. Gu is bone. Jin gu. Sinew and bone.
