Shura Cherkassky Play Chopin's Four Scherzi. (1977)

Perhaps my favorite composer is Chopin. The Scherzi, however, have never been quite my cup of tea. I usually find them brash and not particularly musical compared to other Chopin works. Shura Cherkassky (1909-1995) , however, always had a unique take on almost everything he played. Here he plays the Scherzi in a subdued and much quieter manner, that takes off the hard edge of these pieces, and in places, the works almost sound introspective. This is why Cherkassky is always a joy to listen to.
