I've had lots of parents and teachers ask me how I'm able to get my children to start reading before or around the age of two.
Some have even accused me of giving them too much academic work right from the days when Jesse was 2 years.
But honestly, our secret is a simple lifestyle.
I can't even remember deliberately getting them to sit down for lessons and teaching them how to read this or that. Learning was simply part of our everyday lifestyle at home. We learn without a timetable!
Through everyday conversations, play, reading, questions and simple activities, learning happens naturally.
Janella started reading bigger words, consonant blends and digraphs even before she turned three. Today, at three years and two months, she comfortably reads complete books, including words that many people might consider too advanced for her age.
So, please, don't automatically assume that a child is too young to begin learning or that an older child should already know how to read.
Every child can learn, but the right technique, approach, patience and consistency make a difference.
You don't have to turn your home into a classroom to raise a confident reader. Sometimes, all you need is to make learning part of your everyday lifestyle.
Would you love your child, aged 2–7, to start reading?
Send me a message today. Let's mentor you on how to make reading simple, enjoyable and achievable for your little one.
We also offer online literacy and spelling classes for children.
Let's raise confident readers, one child at a time! ❤️
Your message has a beautiful parenting and teaching philosophy behind it. I would retain your natural, conversational tone while improving the flow, clarity and impact.
