My Boss Gave Me $15… I Had No Idea What I Was Getting Into!

Today is my first day back at work as a 20-year-old housemaid in my employer’s new apartment in Hanoi, Vietnam. My day starts with preparing lunch for my boss, getting the children ready for school, doing laundry, and cleaning the house. But today, my boss gave me a special challenge: transform an empty balcony into a little garden with a budget of just $15! I went shopping for plants, pots, and soil, and ended up spending $15.17. I also reused plastic bottles to grow ginger and shallots. Later, I visited a local Vietnamese market, cooked a traditional eggplant stew, picked up the youngest child from school, and finished my day with a peaceful dinner on the balcony.
