Marking Skin - Episode 1 - Tattoo Documentary

Marking Skin is an open-minded exploration of contemporary tattooing in Montreal. In each episode we look at new, old, and rediscovered ways that people practice and learn this art form in a unique and rapidly-changing city. In this episode we talk to self-taught tattooers about how they got started, why they love stick and poke, and why their clients like to get hand-poked tattoos in a home studio! Self-taught artists, DIY home studios, stick-and-poke, tattoo shops, "kitchen wizards," instagram, graffiti, hip hop, queer, punk and emo... Join us on a gradually-unfolding journey that shows that there is no singular underground tattoo culture, but a range of reasons and methods for marking our skin.
