Harvesting Bananas by Hand on a Philippine Farm | Tree to Shoulder Nothing here is rushed. Before a single cut is made, the banana tree is studied and chosen for exactly the right stage. These bunches are still green, picked on purpose so they have time to ripen to yellow on the journey to market. One small incision is made in the trunk, and the tree is eased down by pulling on the bottom of the bunch or whatever leaves are within reach. Then the fruit is carried out the old way, balanced on the shoulder or overhead, step by careful step. This is how food reaches the table here. No machines, just knowledge passed down and hands that know the work. Still Alive: The Calm After The Storm.
